Maccabiah Games - training central

Greetings from Squash training central here at San Diego Squash!!

The opening ceremonies of the 18th Maccabiah Games begin July 13, 2009 in Tel Aviv, Israel and there are over 9000 athletes from 60 countries particpating in this the 3rd largest sporting event in the world. Greg and Rachel have been named to represent the USA in the sport of squash. Rachel will leave on July 2 to travel with the junior girls team for a pre-camp/mission prior to the start of the Games - she will train in the morning with the team and participate in excursions in the afternoons as part of her mission to spread jewish goodwill. Greg will travel with Susanne and Rebecca a week later. The plan is to have 3 days in Jerusalem, then compete in the Games along with excursions to other parts of Israel with other families and teammates. After the closing ceremonies, we will travel to Petra, Jordan before heading home to San Diego.

We are actively training for the event with none other than the superbly talented squash coaches - Busani Xaba and Chris Walker. We have played in the San Diego Spring Open on 4/24-4/26 - Rachel won the Girls Under 15 division!! We travel to The Atlanta Open on 5/15-5/17 and Greg won the Men's 5.5 division. There will also be an orientation/training session in Philadelphia on 5/29-5/31.

We are currently in fundraising mode for the Yachad portion of about $6,000 each to assist those particpants that otherwise could not afford to make the trip. If you wish to contribute in our name you can point your browser to https://www.maccabiusa.com/index.php?option=com_dtdonate&task=authorizenetonce&Itemid=195

We will continue to keep you updated!!

Shalom

Greg & Rachel
